"...Undoubtedly the best Tempranillo I've tasted" - Washington Post, June 2005
“From the family vineyards in Rivadavia, Mendoza comes this wine made from the best lots of grapes and aged in new barrels. Deep red with aromas of ripe blackberries, this richly textured, concentrated and well-built wine shows the amazing potential of the Tempranillo grape in Argentina. Hints of leather and over-ripe berries mingling with the smooth tannins and sweet oak could overcome your expectations for a wine of this price. You might have to re-evaluate your buying habits of European or Californian wines after you taste this!”
- Here is what the Washington Post has to say:
" This is undoubtedly the best Tempranillo I've tasted from anywhere beyond Spain or Portugal, featuring ripe, juicy, bright fruit reminiscent of black cherries. The oak component is well integrated, and though I was also impressed by Tittarelli's Tempranillo Reserva 2003 at $12, this bottling is worth more than the $4 difference in price."
Tittarelli Winery
Tittarelli is one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in all of Argentina. Founded by Enrique Tittarelli in 1915, just after his arrival from Italy.Tittarelli owns over 1800 hectares (4500 acres) of vines right below the Andes Mountains, an area with an exceptional micro-climate which makes it possible to grow high-quality grapes. The company is divided into two wineries, which combine tradition and technology to create wines of excellent character.
The 33 degree south latitude is a special geographic point as the climate of this zone is characterized by a large swing in temperatures. These conditions, together with the scarce rainfall and the sandy and permeable soil make the ‘cuyana’ area the most suitable for growing grapes, making it possible to compete with and even excel the best and most traditional European wineries.
Achieving excellent wine at the vineyard requires expert work. A team of professionals and specialists, highly qualified, with technicians and workers continues today the legacy of three generations which has made and makes Tittarelli great. The loam sandy, calcareous soils, the good drainage, as well as the scarce rainfall turns the area into a unique environment to cultivate grape vines that yield high quality wines, able to compete with the best in the world.
