Paso de Piedra Malbec - Second Wine of Viña Alicia

Very elegant and full-bodied Malbec...as a second wine from Viña Alicia how could it be anything but elegant!

100% Varietal

Vineyards:
As with most vineyards with very old vines, a low cordon training system (Guyot-style) is employed. The harvest is always manual, while seeking optimum maturity of the grape.

Very distinctive wines which re-define the quality in the small vineyards found in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza.

Climate:

The autumns are very warm, allowing for very energetic and strong vines. Winters are short and rigorous. Mild springtime weather that is very long.

Soil:
Sandy, clay-like soil, highly permeable and gravely in the deeper parts.

Harvest:
By hand, in 20k plastic cartons, in order to prevent the grapes from breaking up or other damages. Harvest takes place March 15-20 every year

Processing:
Fermentation is performed in large oak foudres, with repeated remontage and pissonier, in order to achieve softer tannins and great color. Malolactic fermentation is realized partly in French oak foudres and 10% in French oak barrels. The wine then returns to the oak barrels, where they age for 6 months, in order to optimize clarification and develop a more pronounced color

Bottling:
Bottling takes place after a very light filtering process over natural earth, in order to filter out any impurities.

Tasting Notes:
Deep purple in color, with a spicy aroma, plum, raisins, and dark cherry-like flavors. Tannins are soft, velvety, and sweet. Very elegant, full-bodied, and a long finish which shows off its splendor and richness.
