Château Haut-Bray - Côtes de Castillon

Côtes de Castillon is the region of Bordeaux just east of the Saint Émilion appellations.Château Haut-Bray lies in the village of Saint-Genes de Castillon, just east and next to the Saint-Émilion appellation. The town is very hilly, with a clay-limestone soil. The property is about 50 acres in size, planted to Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%).

The wine is vinified traditionally for maximum color extraction with a temperature-control system to preserve the fresh fruit flavors. After color extraction, the fermentation and aging occurs in old oak barrels and stainless tanks. This wine is shows well the best of the Côtes de Castillon, with both power and distinction from the terroir.

Château Haut-Bray has a lovely red fruit nose with a deep color, good fruit on the palate, and an excellent complexity with earthy flavors intermingling with the smooth tannins, and a very nice finish. Château Haut-Bray show the traditional flavor profile with a touch of modern fruit to it. For the price, this can’t be beat. Taste this wine to see why this appellation is proving to be an excellent lower-priced replacement for those Saint-Émilions that have gone up in price.
