Close in Flavor to Neighbor Pouilly-Fuissé
Available in 750 ml and 375 ml
Saint-Véran is a small appellation next to the more famous Pouilly-Fuissé in the Mâconnais region of France. They grow only Chardonnay in the seven communes surrounding the town of Fuissé entitled to this Appellation Contrôlée created in 1971. The wines must conform to the same standards as that of Pouilly. The wines are similar in style to their neighbor, a classic Chardonnay with vitality, finesse, and distinction. Although it is good the year after the vintage, it is at its best 2-5 years old.
The grapes are grown in soil with a granite base and some limestone, on the rolling hills of the left bank of the river Saône. Chardonnay accounts for 60% of the grapes in the Mâconnais region. This wine has a rich nose and palate with aromas and flavors of ripe pineapple and baked apple. It is round on the palate with nice fat fruit, soft finish and very elegant for the price. There are also vanilla notes intermingled into the lingering finish.
Try with charcuterie, fish or roasted chicken.
