Caves de Prissé Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay

Award-Winning Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay
Pouilly Fuissé has been popular in the United States for decades. The Mâconnais region of France lies between Beaujolais to the south and the Côte Chalonnaise and Burgundy proper to the north. They grow only Chardonnay in the communes surrounding the town of Fuissé (Aligoté is planted in outlying areas). The wines are similar in style to their Burgundy neighbors to the north, producing a classic Chardonnay with vitality, finesse, and distinction. The wines are not typically as complex as a Beaune or Puligny, but what they lack in overall complexity they compensate with rich fruit flavors, a fairly rich consistency, and beautiful balance. Although the wines are good the year after the vintage, they are at their best 1-5 years later.

The grapes are grown in soil with a granite base and limestone, on the rolling hills of the left bank of the river Saône, just below the limestone hill known as the ‘rock of Solutré’. The appellation dates from 1936 and encompasses four communes: Vergisson, Solutré-Pouilly, Fuissé and Chaintré. Chardonnay accounts for 60% of the grapes in the Mâconnais region, but is the only grape allowed in Pouilly-Fuissé, and the elevation of the four communes is believed to help the complexity of the wine.

Made in an ultramodern facility, the Caves de Prissé, Sologny, and Verzé, this wine has a rich floral nose with pleasantly rich flavors of baked apple, pear and a touch of pineapple and spice. It is round on the palate with nice fat fruit, soft finish and very elegant for the price, and consistently wins awards in France and abroad.

Try with your favorite fish dish, roasted chicken or sip it by itself before the meal.
